Fullsteam!

Opens today with a series of private parties for friends, families, investors, and kewl kids during the afternoon, and to the general public at 6:14 pm. There's something significant about that time; perhaps Quentin Tarantino will use it in his next flick.

Durham faves Wigg Report take the stage at 7 or so.

Drink up.

UPDATE: Sean posts that the bar pushed through 17 kegs last night. By my count that's a bit more than 2000 pints, accounting for some spillage.

Not a bad 1st night, i would think.

Tents went up at the old ballpark last night for tomorrow's Beer Festival. Yay!

Weather looks pretty perfect too.

Speaking of beer, they Sweetwater Girls were at the bar last night giving away samples of 420 pale ale. Has there ever been a blander micro brew on the market?

Awesome!

The "plow-to-pint Southern brewery" that's the brainchild of Sean Wilson -- who led the successful Pop the Cap battle to raise the alcohol by volume limits on beer so craft beers could succeed in the state -- has announced its founding location will be at 726 Rigsbee.

The DAP-area building used to be a Seven-Up cola bottling plant, and it seems that a site that once made the "uncola" it a fitting home for the unique beers Wilson and his team hope to brew.

We know Sean will do as good a job making his own beer as he did convincing the NC legislature to "Pop the Cap" a couple years back. And it's walking distance to my place.

Beer

A couple of beer related announcements to pass along.

For starters, the 2nd annual Black Friday Beer Festival (BF2, as the kewl kidz say), is happening this Friday, the 28th, from 3-7 pm at the Triangle Brewery on Pearl St.

Advance tix are $25 at Bull McCabe's and James Joyce. If there are any left, you can get 'em at the door for $30 on Friday, but Andy tells me that there's a strict limit on the number of tickets sold, so do yourself a favor and buy them early.

Sean Wilson, formerly of Pop the Cap (and the guy who started the BF2 thing last year) is pushing ahead with his Fullsteam Brewery project. An invite only party is happening on the 5th of December. Drop Sean a line at Sean AT fullsteam DOT ag if you want an engraved invitation to the event.

Great minds, and all that

T-shirt available at the Outer Banks Brewing Station on Kill Devil Hills, which claims to be the first wind powered brewery in the US.

The food was decent, but the beers, especially the kolsch, the hefeweizen, and the brown ale (trade name Dragon's Milk) were all excellent. The Dragon's Milk ranks in the top 10 beers i've ever tasted.

Speaking of beer, Daniel Bradford, publisher of All About Beer magazine and director the of the upcoming (and sold out, if rumors are true) World Beer Festival, will be our guest tonight on Shooting the Bull. We'll be talking about his fundraising work for the downtown and Durham Central Park areas and, since it's the last holiday of the summer, i'm sure beer will enter into the discussion. That's 7:30 pm on WDXU, 88.7 FM. Podcast will be available from tomorrow morning on iTunes.

So my friend and fellow blogger Ginny threw a bash last night in Raleigh to announce the new venture she's a part of. It's called 30threads.com, and it aims to be a one-stop shop for the latest in the Triangle blogosphere. And i went. And came back, unscathed.

Now you know what it takes to get me into downtown Raleigh: free beer and barbecue.

And T-shirts.

(All kidding aside, i had a very nice piece of baklava afterwards, enjoyed while sitting at a table on the lawn at Turkish Delights, on Glenwood. Highly recommended if you're in town. And good luck to Ginny and Wayne on their new site.)

Does it really matter who owns Budweiser?

In addition to opposition from politicians and civic leaders, at least two Web sites sprung up opposing the merger. SaveBudweiser.com claims to have more than 60,000 signatures from merger opponents. SaveAB.com hosted a recent anti-merger rally that drew hundreds to downtown St. Louis.

If your goal is to keep your beer money in the US, you could always drink locally.
