West Coast blogging - day 8

Sunday was the wedding that we came out for in the first place. Our first week in SF, we stayed with public transportation, but we wanted to head up the North Coast for a bit (where we are now), so we rented a car sunday for the second week. Only thing is we needed to get to the airport to pick it up early, and still get back to the city in time for the wedding at 11:30. Fortunately, the buses run every 12 minutes on Sunday mornings, so our trip to the airport, using the MUNI and Bart, only took half an hour or so from front door to rental desk.

Here's the transportation tally for the first week.

Two MUNI passes at $15 each.
Eight BART rides at an average of $3 each
One late night taxi at $11.
Total - $65.

We had a few rides from friends with cars, but except for the visit above the Berkeley hills, every place we visited was accessible via bus, streetcar, or train.

The car (a Yaris) is going to run about $300 for the week, plus the headache of figuring out where to park it during the day on Thursday and Friday.

But you want to hear about the wedding, don't you?

It was held in a park called Stern Grove. Apparently Mrs. Sigmund Stern was a major benefactor of the San Francisco parks system back in the day, and they named this one for her. (No, none of the placards in the park gave her first name.) I had hoped the name really meant that you had to adopt a Smith Bros. demeanor at all times in the park, but i was wrong.

The coolest thing, though?

It was a pirate wedding!

Full of wenches, scalawags, and mateys. And a sword fight.

And grog. Lots of grog.
