"Get in touch with god, turn your radio on"

That's what Albert E. Brumley wrote back in 1963 or so. I can't promise you'll hear from the Lord, but if you turn your radio on to WXDU, 88.7 fm on Sunday night at 7:30, you can hear Kevin Davis, proprietor of Bull City Rising, and myself bringing the blogosphere to the airwaves for half an hour of "Shooting the Bull". We'll be puncturing pomposity and bringing enlightenment to the unwashed masses on the burning issues of the day in a thrilling and breathtaking, no-hold-barred radio extravaganza the likes of which haven't been heard round these parts since Richard Nixon was Vice-President.

And if we can figure out which buttons to push, podcasts of the show will be available here and at BCR.

Seriously, we're both really excited by this opportunity, and hope that it adds another dimension to the ongoing discussion that is Durham.

  • We'll fire up the crystal set for your fireside chat.

If you're not Mr. Dependable and chance upon this comment and don't know what I'm talking about, you're probably pretty ignorant about a) radio technology and b) American history from the 1930's.

  • Oh, Tony. You're not the only one whose Dad (a friend of Marconi himself, I think!) maybe built him/her a crystal set.

I used to sleep with headphones the size of Leia's braids in order to listen to the crystal set Dad helped me build in the 1960's. My neck has been out of whack ever since! But I still love radio as a medium.
