Election results thread

I'll be live blogging and updating results here from 8 pm tonight.

Tell us about your voting experience today in the comments.

UPDATE: first results - Obama up about 3-1 over Clinton with 60% of the precincts reporting. (Note - these are Durham results, not statewide.)

UPDATE II: Tracey Cline is ahead with 45% of the vote with 67% of the precincts reporting.

UPDATE III: DEM - NC GOVERNOR
Seats: 1
(WITH 42 OF 62 PRECINCTS COUNTED 67.74%)
Bev Perdue . . . . . . . . . . 29,694 58.32
Richard H. Moore . . . . . . . . 19,933 39.15
Dennis Nielsen. . . . . . . . . 1,291 2.54
Total . . . . . . . . . 50,918

DEM - CO COMM
Seats: 5
(WITH 42 OF 62 PRECINCTS COUNTED 67.74%)
Michael D. Page . . . . . . . . 28,726 15.17
Becky Heron. . . . . . . . . . 26,442 13.96
Ellen Reckhow . . . . . . . . . 25,872 13.66
Joe W. Bowser . . . . . . . . . 19,305 10.19
Brenda Howerton . . . . . . . . 19,076 10.07
Fred Foster, Jr. . . . . . . . . 17,145 9.05
Don Moffitt. . . . . . . . . . 16,263 8.59
Victoria Peterson. . . . . . . . 15,376 8.12
Josh Parker. . . . . . . . . . 13,699 7.23
Doug Wright. . . . . . . . . . 7,499 3.96
Total . . . . . . . . . 189,403

UPDATE IV: Those county commissioner numbers are interesting. I'll do the math and try to figure out who is actually within the 40% threshold.

So far the first 8 candidates on the ballot are above the 40% threshold, so it doesn't look like there will be a runoff.

UPDATE V: Looks like we're headed for a runoff in the school board at-large seat, as neither Leigh Bordley nor Jonathan Alston is able to get a 40% plurality.

UPDATE VI: County Commissioners race has the three incumbents (Page, Heron, Reckhow) looking good for re-election, while Joe Bowser and Brenda Howerton seem to be ready to take the two remaining seats. That's going to raise a few eyebrows.

UPDATE VII: The Jonathan Alston showing in the school board at-large race is, for me, the most significant of thenight. More than any opther race, this one clearly shows that the Durham Committee remains a potent force in local politics.

UPDATE VIII: CNN has an interactive county by county map showing the presidential results.

UPDATE IX: Results have stalled out at around 49 precincts reporting, so no updates for a while.

UPDATE X: AT 10 pm, with 60 out of 62 precincts reporting, the only two races left up in the air are the 5th seat on the BoCC, and the at-large school board seat. That race looks like it's going to a runoff. On the BoCC, Brenda Howerton is holding onto the last seat by a margin of about 700 votes over Fred Foster. Joe Bowser appears to have successfully regained his seat on the BoCC. More comments and rumors resulting from this development later.

  • Is Cline ahead enough to not warrant a runoff? I'm not clear about that...

  • Not sure how Commission is going to end up yet. A lot hangs on the last few precincts. Looks less and less attainable for Foster and Moffitt, though.

  • I believe that Tracey Cline will have enough votes to avoid a runoff with Freda Black.

At this point i'd be very surprised of Don Moffitt is elected to the Durham Board of County Commissioners.

  • Moffitt not finishing well surprises me, but so does Dellinger taking the other three to the woodshed. That's pretty remarkable.

  • For the presidential race, the NY Times has an interesting interactive graphic. Not only results by county, but visuals of counties by candidate according to population characteristics for ethnicity of residents, college education and income levels.
