It might already be too late for the good stuff, but reader JH informs me that the Hillsborough Rd. VisArt is shutting down and liquidating inventory. I'm going to swing by at lunch time and see if Firefly is stll available.

UPDATE: As noted in the comments, the Criterion classic series is not included in the liquidation sale. DVDs are 6 bucks, VHS tapes 2 bucks, and TV series are 15 bucks per season. (In theory. The guy ahead of me scored the Monty Python 16 Ton box set for 15 bucks.) The store will be open through December, and inventory will be replenished from the warehouse throughout the month. The store on Martin Luther King Dr. will remain open for rentals.

I scored a widescreen of Serenity, but Firefly was gone.

  • Well, I just spent $118 there, Barry -- curse you!! :)

  • Why didn't they just move the inventory to the MLK or Carrboro location? (That's rhetorical.)

  • They had boxes and boxes and boxes of inventory when I was there earlier -- most of it duplicating what they have more than enough of at MLK. But they said they were moving a lot to the other location. The place was pretty crowded and DVD's and sets were going fast. Plus, one employee had snapped up $260 worth of stuff.

I got the impression anyone still buying videotapes would be a happy person indeed -- there were still tons of those for sale.

  • Man, a busy stretch when I get behind on blogs, and see what I miss?

I'm sure there's no hope of their Dr. Who collection still being there.

  • At lunch time yesterday, there was still a fair bit of old Dr. Who in the Sci-Fi section, and some of the current crop in the TV section.

But that was 24 hours ago.

They did say they'd be reloading occasionally bertween now and the end of the year.
