More parade photos
Our neighborhood has been marching in the parade for the past four or five years. I really look forward to it. Seeing all of the spectators is a different perspective on who actually lives in our city. One drawback is you don't actually get to see the parade itself. Here's a bit of what i saw yesterday.
Duke Park contingent. Council members Ali, Cole-McFadden, and Woodard in the center pose for a photo op.
Spaulding Elementary School pre-parade lineup
I have no idea why there's a duck on the Fox 50 float
Southern High School Band pre-parade lineup
Some crowd shots
Now, all we need is some rain.

I think the Fox 50 duck has to do with their annual Great American Duck race or whatever the heck they call it-- each year, thousands of rubber duckies float down the American Tobacco complex canal in a race, all for a good cause (to raise money for charity). It's actually a really fun event. Very imaginative.

Thanks. Sounds like something i'll have to keep my eyes open for.

Does Mike Woodard live in Duke Park? I don't think so, but it occurred to me that I don't actually know.

Is the beaver mask I saw someone from the Duke Park bunch wearing during the parade a reference to that beaver that the NCDOT wanted to have killed a few years back b/c it was clogging a pipe under a road or something like that?

In a manner of speaking. Following the beaver debacle, some Duke Park residents formed Beaver Lodge 1504, a mud roots organization dedicated to Peace, Love, and Beaver.
We'll be holding the 4th annual Beaver Queen Pageant in June 2008, in the Duke Park swamp. DE was the official blog for the 2007 Pageant. We hope to be able to fill that role again next year. We hope you can make it.

Woodard does not live in Duke Park. A couple of former council members and a former assembly member do, but no current elected officials that i'm aware of.

Perhaps you could change your blog name to Dependable Beaver.
