Everything i need to know about life i learned from watching Coen Brothers movies
If you stumble across a whole lot of someone else's money, best to leave it alone*.
One time back in, i think, 1980, i was walking in uptown Manhattan with a woman i was dating, and we passed a man sitting in a doorway, apparently passed out, with a large stack of bills between his feet. She poked me, but i declined the opportunity. At the time, i was thinking the worst that would happen would be that i would end up in some sociology grad student's thesis about human behavior.
Now, i'm not so sure.

Yep. More like "would end up as the real life subject of a scary film that gets analyzed in some sociology grad student's thesis about human behavior."
Aren't you glad that the girlfriend is the "ex" and that the wise woman is the Mrs. D?

Or you could turn against each other, a la A Simple Plan.

i think Anton Chigurh is probably the baddest motherfucker in the history of movies.

Was it just me or did anyone else (who saw it) pick up on the fact that the sheriff was in essence ghost-like? He had no power, no effect on the plot. That use of a major character as de facto background was fascinating.
Many reviewers have dug up the old cliche about the movie being 'a critique of the America of today' and so on. I still haven't read a review that touched on the very unusual character development. All the major characters were strong, yet powerless. Even Anton Chigurh was just 'there'. His violence was entirely inevitable, yet still hit you square in the face when it came.
Wonderful movie. I tend to agree this this is the Cohen Brothers at their best - rarely has a movie made me think about technique and control so much.
