What's the holdup?
It's Thursday morning, Obama's lead in NC is up to 14,000 votes, from 12,000 on Tuesday night, and the state hasn't been called yet?
What's the deal?
UPDATE:
McCain would have to win the provisionals by better than 2-1 (27K - 13K) to overtake Obama. Chalk NC up for Obama.
UPDATE II: It's official!
What's the deal?
UPDATE:
In the unofficial returns, Obama led Republican John McCain by 13,746 votes. Gary Bartlett, the state elections director, said Obama should be considered the unofficial victor. Bartlett said an estimated 40,000 provisional ballots still must be counted, but based on experience, the outcome is not likely to change when the State Board of Elections certifies the results on Nov. 25.

The hold up is that the number of provisional ballots cast in NC is greater than the number of votes Obama is ahead by. This means that all of the provisional ballots have to be evaluated to determine if they are valid and then the valid ones have to be counted. Theoretically there could be a lot of McCain supporters who cast provisional ballots and if so he could official win the state. Fortunately it doesn't matter for the national decision or we could turn out to be this years Florida.

Provisionals almost always break Democratic.

Don't forget the write-ins. Some of us are still waiting to see how Cynthia McKinney of the Green Party did.
Can't recall if Nader was a write-in in NC, but nationally he did better than Barr. Could have made the difference in NC.

Which will not affect the distribution of NC's 15 electoral college votes.

Of course. I'm just saying some of us non-Dems share your frustration.
What's the problem on your end? Even if you're going to the electoral college I don't see how it makes a difference (unless you suspect fraud).

I want to be able to congratulate a few folks who worked very hard to make it happen. Now i can.

For me, it's personal. I've been waiting my whole life to see NC go Democratic at the Presidential level. (I was 7 months old when Carter won it.) I really wish I'd been able to celebrate that on Tuesday, but I'll take it any way I can get it.
