NC for Obama?

97 counties reporting - Obama up by 13K votes.

Buncombe, Mecklenburg, and Wilson haven't finished. McCain has to take somewhere around 80% of the uncounted votes to win the state.

Na ga happen.

  • According to WRAL:
    Obama 2,102,175
    McCain 2,088,670

100% precincts reporting. 13,505 additional votes for Obama

  • SBOE has Obama 2,108,777 and McCain 2,097,531.

That's a quarter of a percentage point. Probably close enough to trigger a recount, but unlikely to change.

Missouri is even closer - 6,000 or so votes McCain up.

Georgia is the really interesting story. Apparently, none of the 600,000 or so early votes from the Atlanta area were included in last night's totals. Obama needs to win those by 68 - 32 or so to overcome McCain's lead and take Georgia.

I'm so sorry for you, Gene.

  • North Carolina is waiting on provisional ballots at this point. Barring some weird circumstance surrounding those (there were about 50,000 in 2004, so McCain would need to win those by a 62-38 margin), I think he holds onto the initial count. I can't imagine why McCain would ask for a recount, so it certainly looks like NC is going blue.

For some reason, I'm really needing those election maps to color us in blue, though. Like it won't be real until that happens.

  • Isn't a recount automatic at something like half a percent?
