Down in the holler
My friends at the Southern Documentary Fund asked me to pass this along. I'd have done it sooner, but i've been busy with this Beaver Queen Pageant, and blogger is wacky again today.
If you're not busy this evening, here's something to do. No word on whether the screening room is air-conditioned.
The Southern Documentary Fund's Southern Docs Screening Series continues this Friday, June 6, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. with Down in the Hollow, directed by Peden Young. The screening will be held at the Durham Arts Council (click for directions).
This fascinating film tracks Nathan Roark as he hunts for his food, bathes in a creek, and cooks dinner for his daughters on a wood-burning stove; his off-the-grid lifestyle is intimately connected with nature.
We also follow urban foster youth who journey into Nathan's woods where he teaches them the value of a relationship with the earth. Along the way, we explore Nathan's path towards his chosen life, and, with the kids, we learn how respect for the earth can teach us respect for each other and for ourselves.
After the screening, join us for a Q&A with director Peden Young.
Admission is FREE for SDF Members! General admission is $5 at the door.
