Beaver Queen Pageant - Meet the contestants

Last, but certainly not least, our next contestant also passed through Louisiana on her way to Durham, but she preferred the bayou to the Big Easy. Meet Fabulous Fishscenta Beaver:
My clan hails from de wetlands of South America, but we wuz brung to de swamps ov de Lousiana Bayou. I am currently in a transpecies relationship wit' a camel from Saudi Arabia. It wuz thar I learnt my exotic dancing skills. I mus' confess, mais oui, I have a bit of a foot fetish. Just one look at dat big ol' camel-toe an' I feel dat Cajun burn. Sacre blue, dat camel of mine, what a hump, an dats for t'roo!

Believe it or not, i'm speechless.

Tomorrow's the big day. Pre-pageant festivities begin at 5 pm in the Duke Park Meadow, off of Acadia St. There'll be face painting and beaver tail making for the kits, and the grownups will get a chance to purchase ballots and other swag ahead of time. Don't forget, no plastic, cash or checks only. All net proceeds will go to the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association to help continue their good work preserving and protecting Durham's wetlands.

We'll have a final rundown of the judges and contestants for you tomorrow, as well as the lyrics for the audience participation singalongs. Don't forget, the theme of this year's pageant is Hair, so if you've got any paisley or tie dye around the house, you might think about wearing it.
