Liveblogging the County Commissioners!

Oh, who am i kidding. Page's bullshit about not granting the delay request is enough to push my blood pressure into the danger zone.

Hey Mr. Chair - this process has gone on for two years. If you haven't heard enough to make a decision yet, maybe public service isn't your calling.

UPDATE: Brenda Howerton just lost whatever respect I may have had for her.

UPDATE: Hey Commissioner Bowser - the last speaker was referring to the bending of the rules when the watershed boundary protest petition was ruled invalid for your vote, then ruled valid later, and your vote was allowed to stand. That's a violation of the standards set forth in the UDO. So get off your high horse and do your job.

UPDATE: Nope, didn't see that coming.

UPDATE: Chairman Page might want to look at a map when he gets home. He might find that China and India are two different countries.

  • The sick sad truth is that nothing will change unless and until other folks run, and can get elected.

  • I don't intend to run for office myself, but i am damn sure going to be a lot more involved in in the next county commissioners election in 2012.

  • Right now is the time to start organizing for 2012.

  • Barry, you need to add the "idiots" label to this post...

  • Good point!

    So, what happens next?

  • Start naming folks whose arms need to be twisted into running.

  • Speaking of idiots, the chairman did not even read the new concessions. Why do we elect these guys? They don't even do their homework.

The concessions -- which Page twice said he hadn't read -- among other things promised a 75,000-square-foot cap on any single retail space to forestall big-box stores, and compliance with new anti-pollution controls in the Jordan Lake watershed.

  • "We have to take care of the water and soil and all of that, but we have to take care of the people. With the economy the way it is, we have got a lot of people hurting." Howerton got over $1500 in congratulatory money from the developers after the '08 election. I think she's taking care of Brenda Howerton and all of that.

Barry, I hope your blood pressure is ok. I admire your unconditional love for Durham.

  • Durham: It may not pass the smell test, but it's legal.

  • When Howerton said she'd just go along with whatever everyone else voted I had to laugh. Is that why we elect officials? So they'll go along with all the other elected officials?

Not every elected official can be a fearless leader, but they should at least aspire to be more than a mindless sheep.
