World Cup draw
It's the US with England, Algeria, and Slovenia in Group C. Will a win and two draws be enough to make it into the knockout stage?
Group of Death this time around is Group G with Brazil, Portugal and Ivory Coast along with North Korea. Also interesting are the four colony/colonizer matchups: in addition to the US and England in the group stages, and the Brazil/Portugal meeting, Spain gets both Honduras and Chile in their group. France, in a group with South Africa, Uruguay and Mexico, should have an easy time of advancing, damnit.

We get the cushy group! Yay!
I predict Donovan pwns Beckham and the Yanks hold on for a draw against England, and we both move on to the second round.

Nah, France, not even seeded, got the easiest group.
My predictions:
A - Mexico, France
B - Greece, Nigeria (Argentina is so overrated right now, despite Messi)
C - England, Slovenia
D - Ghana, Serbia
E - Denmark, Japan
F - Italy, Slovakia
G - Brazil, Ivory Coast
H - Spain, Honduras
All subject to change between now and June, of course. It would be fitting if neither Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo makes the knockout stages, i think.
And if FIFA sanctions Thierry Henry for that handball without taking any actions against the officials who missed it, or without changing the officiating scheme (at least add the two officials in the penalty area for cryin' out loud) they really suck.

I'll be surprised if Becks makes it into the game. If England has to put him in the starting XI when they've got Lampard, Gerrard, Wright-Phillips, Milner, Gareth Barry, they're in trouble!
I feel bad for Ivory Coast, definitely my sentimental favorite. They might pull it out, but a tough road through Portugal and Brazil.
I think Argentina will pull it together, in spite of their coach. They've got too much talent to crash out versus Greece, Nigeria.
Barry, why you hating on US? Think they're heading for a flop?

Slovenia? You know something I don't?

Not hating on the US, but i think that Slovenia is going to be one of the big surprises in the tournament. Like i said, though, subject to change between now and the end of May. Any of the European teams in the tournament had a much tougher road than did the US. Don't count Algeria out either - they had to beat Egypt twice to get into the finals.
Argentina will probably get through despite having a moron for a coach. Portugal/Ivory Coast will probably be one of the best games of the first round.
