Ninth Street didn't have to do without pizza by the slice for too long, now, did it? How long before we see this sign, or one like it, inside the loop?
Midweek Buzz: Devil's Pizzeria opens on 9th Street By Monica Chen, Herald-Sun, 7 Jan 2009
New pizza joint: It's part of a city's evolution to have businesses coming and going, but it's rare to have two businesses with so many similarities, one of which is opening right on the heels of the other's closing.
Less than a week after Pizza Palace tossed its last pie, a new pizzeria has opened on Ninth Street next to International Delights. Before moving to Guess Road, Pizza Palace had been in the Ninth Street area for decades.
Called Devil's Pizzeria, the new pizza joint opened Tuesday and serves up New York-style pizza by the pie or the slice. Owner Ziad Lobbad, a Durham native, said the restaurant offers subs on top of the regular pizza menu as well as calzones, strombolis and various appetizers.
Specialty pizzas include stuffed pizzas with meat and veggies, lasagna pizzas and Rio Rancho pizza, with bacon, tomato and ranch.
The house special: Two slices and a drink for $4.99. A 16-inch pizza with one topping is $9.99.
The restaurant has 28 seats and is open seven days a week, 11 a.m.-midnight Sunday through Wednesday and 11 a.m.-3 a.m. Thursday-Saturday.
The address is 742 Ninth St. For more information, call (919) 286-3090.
Since 1949, Durhamites have slept soundly, secure in the knowledge that, in our town, erection can be depended upon. Now, thanks to the power of the internets, we can spread that security all over the world.
