Puppy update

Question: Everyone wants to know, what kind of dog are you going to buy for your girls?

Obama: With respect to the dog, this is a major issue. I think it's generated more interest on our Web site than just about anything.

We have -- we have two criteria that have to be reconciled. One is that Malia is allergic, so it has to be hypoallergenic. There are a number of breeds that are hypoallergenic.

On the other hand, our preference would be to get a shelter dog, but, obviously, a lot of shelter dogs are mutts like me. So -- so whether we're going to be able to balance those two things I think is a pressing issue on the Obama household.

How can you not like this guy?

  • *sigh*

There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. It really pisses me off that all the "doodle" breeders (i.e. "goldendoodle," "labradoodle," etc.) have invented the notion of a hypoallergenic dog as a marketing ploy, because all dogs (even the "non-shedding" ones) produce allergenic proteins in their hair and saliva.

And what are the Obama's going to do if they go get some designer dog and Malia is still allergic to it?

  • What the hell, Rahm, get this "dog thing" right, before talk radio and FOX runaway with it.

    Now.

  • Maybe with all the problems facing the country he could actually address them exclusively instead of spending ANY time talking about puppies.

  • this one's easy -- just foster a dog, you can keep it if you like it. Do it now while you're still in Chicago. No guilt if it doesn't work out (this is what we do).

Or just get the poodle rescue group of illinois to pick out one. It'll be a shelter dog AND "not a mutt".

The Obama presidency - Can it be saved from failure? Joining our discussion tonight is Pat Buchanan on the right and prominent Obama supporter Christopher Buckley on the left.Gentlemen, Obama has been president-elect for 96 hours, and already unemployment is at its highest levels in over 16 years, factory production is down to almost nothing, and suicide attacks in both Iraq and Afghanistan are up 50% over past months.

    Can Obama save his presidency?
