Two words

McCain spokeswoman Nicolle Wallace criticized "hateful" slurs and innuendoes in the liberal blogosphere.

"I think the private life of a 17-year-old child ... is something that was being used as a political weapon by liberal bloggers and advocates of Democratic and liberal causes," she said on Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show.

What a whiner.

I've got two words for Ms. Wallace: Chelsea Clinton.

Sarah Palin's support for abstinence only education and opposition to contraception for teens guarantees more unplanned pregnancies among unwed teenagers. Not all of those are going to occur among kids whose parents happen to be the governor of a state. Her daughter's condition absolutely reflects Palin's political acts, and is fair game for any public conversation.

  • Rush Limbaugh.

and haven't you ever read Red State or Free Republic?

You're just a chicken shit anonymous driveby whining revisionist.

Here's the deal. No one that i know is "attacking" Bristol Palin for being pregnant. That's her call. But having raised two daughters to adulthood without having to deal with an unplanned pregnancy, i think i have some qualifications to discuss Sarah Palin's parenting skills. Teenage pregnancies are an issue of public policy. Supporting abstinence only sex education increases unplanned teenage pregnancies. Sarah Palin's public policy, and her own personal failings, combine here. And if she brings those policies into the White House, a lot more kids who aren't her daughter are going to be at risk for becoming pregnant.

and that's a legitimate topic of discussion.

Feel free to read that as an attack on Bristol Palin. That's all your kind ever does, cry "victim" whenever you have no standing to actually, you know, make an argument.

  • it's 2008, and abstinence-only education is the only sex-ed that gets government funding an support. that is totally fucked up and dangerously ignorant, especially in a country this big and, er, progressive.

    good post, barry.

Because her father is Janet Reno."

  • I agree that Chelsea had to endure quite a bit, but I'm not sure how that justifies stooping to that level. We could also, of course, follow Karl Rove's playbook and release an ad from an unconnected 527 that claimed that John McCain made up all of his Hanoi Hilton stories, but I'd rather we didn't.

I agree with Obama -- leave the kids out of it.

  • Because Chelsea Clinton's physical appearance had absolutely no bearing on public policy.

Sarah Palin's positions on abstinence only education, availability of contraception to teenagers, and this beauty, unearthed earlier today at Eschaton, are all part of not only the public policy debate, but also part of the "new culture wars" which it appears that the Republicans are prepared to make virtually the entirety of their campaign to keep control of the White House.

For fucks sake, they're bringing the 18 year old father of Bristol Palin's unborn child to the convention stage tonight. And as Byron York, writing in the National Review online, also via Atrios, said:
I don't usually engage in these scenarios, but I'll do it here. If the Obamas had a 17 year-old daughter who was unmarried and pregnant by a tough-talking black kid, my guess is if that they all appeared onstage at a Democratic convention and the delegates were cheering wildly, a number of conservatives might be discussing the issue of dysfunctional black families.

    It's the hypocrisy.

    Same as it ever was.
