Love that last one. Out of the frying pan into the fire for Mr. Bonfield, perhaps?
From Progressive Pensacola:
PP is a relatively new blog. This appears to be the first time they've written about Mr. Bonfield in the 3 months they've been publishing.
UPDATE: One thing i have not been able to discover about Mr. Bonfield in all of my research, is whether he's a Starbucks man, or if he prefers Dunkin' Donuts or Krispy Kreme. I assure you, i will keep digging.

The article states: “Fogg also praised Bonfield for his work on economic development projects downtown, including a maritime museum complex that featured a baseball stadium, conference center, museum and amphiteater at a public cost of $40 million.”
Did anyone tell Durham it is still just weeds? Is it just me or does it make it look like a completed project?

I guess Tom knows a sinking ship when he sees one. Hey, good for him.

Congratulations Tom!
No matter how good the city manager, this city with this council can never progress as long as the policy for progress includes a check -in with the good ol boy brotherhood first.

golly. north carolina has higher taxes than florida. why would someone leave a low tax paradise like florida for a high tax hell like north carolina? better schools? better roads? better universities? better health care? none of that matters compared to the taxes people dont pay here in florida. those suckers there up dont know how bad they’ve got it.

From Progressive Pensacola:
Some folks don’t care for Tom Bonfield, but I never had too much of a problem with him. I think he’s an able administrator. He’s not visionary, he’s not even really very future-minded, but he is an able administrator, and a professional, and I can’t blame him for putting on a life vest and jumping off our sinking ship. While the opportunity to bring in new management and shake up city staff is appealing, the city manager is selected by the City Council, which is not appealing, especially in light of recent events.
In any case, I wish him luck in his new endeavours.

holy crap, are they crazy?! the cost of living down there is fecking insane! and after living there for 10 years, and still having to visit at least twice per year, I maintain that I would never want to live there again!
plus, i've never had the most favorable opinion of pensacola...

Well, Bonfield hasn't shied away from thorny issues :
http://180dts.bravepages.com/2000/March_Stealthy.html
"On Tuesday, February 1, 2000, the local media in Pensacola, Florida reported that City Manager Tom Bonfield had announced he was removing the Confederate battle flag from the Pensacola's "City of Five Flags" displays and replacing it with the Stars and Bars, for "historical correctness.""
He stayed 7+ years on the job since then.

RE: the PS--Why don't you and Kevin invite him onto the radio show and ask him as soon as he gets to town?
By Lisa B., at 6:53 AM
i think we'll let him unpack his bags before we Shoot the Bull with him, but yeah, he'll be on the radar for an interview.
