Beaver Queen Pageant - Meet the judges
Our last judge is a member of that rare species, a tree-hugging beaver. Ms. Birken Stock describes how she ended up in the meadow:
And with that, we complete our introduction to this year's Beaver Queen Pageant judges. Beginning tomorrow we'll start meeting the 5 contestants who will be vying for the coveted title of Beaver Queen 2008. On Saturday, we'll recap all of the contestants and judges. Stay tuned during the week for info on how you can purchase unique Beaver Queen swag, and start bribing judges and stuffing ballot boxes to make sure your favorite beaver becomes our newest Beaver Queen. We remind you that all funds raised in excess of expenses are donated to the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association. Last year, the pageant raised in excess of $700. We're hoping to surpass that by a healthy margin this year, so remember to vote early and often.
Be sure to listen in tonight at 7:30 on WXDU 88.7, or WXDU.org, when Kevin and i will be talking to Miss Kaferine De Nerve of the Beaver Lodge. If you've got anything you'd like us to talk about, send an email to ShootingTheBull AT gmail DOT com
And i'd also like to mention that thanks to reader and beaver fan PB, it looks like the technology is in place for live-blogging the Beaver Queen Pageant. So check in next Saturday evening, June 7th, beginning at 6 pm, if you can't make it to the wetlands in person.
I am a professional student of the Beaver . . . and hope to receive a Doctorate in Beaver behavioral studies soon. I hope to use my knowledge to continue my efforts and the efforts of the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association to preserve the Wetlands. Beavers thrive in a healthy wetland.
Normally, I would think that an academic and activist would be a strange choice for pageant judge. However, I spend a lot of time with them, and believe that I have a clear idea of what is beautiful about the Beaver.

Last night I had a long dream about swimming with beavers, and I think I've just realized why.

If I had a radio show, I know I'd want to be followed by "suicide songs". :)
(Nice job, by the way, though I just caught the latter half; will catch the podcast later).

Prof Stock might have thought that I too busy being crushed out during her lectures to have paid attention but I learned quite a few things about beavers during her class.
Did you know? Beavers are second only to humans in their ability to manipulate and change their environment.
