So i'm reading this AP story with a fascinating headline: Civil rights leader convicted of incest
A jury convicted an iconic civil-rights figure of incest Thursday after concluding that he had sex with his teenage daughter 15 years ago. The Rev. James L. Bevel, 71, a top lieutenant to Martin Luther King Jr. who also helped organize the Million Man March, faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced.

Not that i'm an expert on the history of the civil rights movement or anything, but i've never come across his name before. So i'm curious about the description as a "top lieutenant to Marin Luther King, Jr." Maybe he was. Further on down the article it also says "In the 1960s, Bevel was a leader in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), two of the stalwart organizations that led efforts to desegregate the South." Leaving the description of his actual role in these groups as "leader." So i guess i'll have to do my own research on how top a lieutenant Rev. Bevel might have actually been.

Then there's this:
In 1992, he was vice presidential running mate to political maverick Lyndon LaRouche, who has a home in Loudoun County but at the time was in a federal prison for a tax conviction.
Political maverick Lyndon LaRouche??!!! You're fucking kidding me, right?

Why not have just headlined the story "Aging whackjob convicted of incest" and saved us all a lot of grief. Being LaRouche's running mate at the same time the incest occurred is probably a lot more significant than what he was doing 45 years ago, doncha think?
