The 60s are the new black

From the comments (anonymous, of course):
If you wrote this blog in Cuba you'd be in jail by now.

Because pointing out the excesses of the Bush administration is a crime in Cuba?

For cryin' out loud. Ho Chi Minh was an answer tonight on Jeopardy. It's the Gulag for you, Mr. Trebek!

  • These creeps not-so-secretly wish for a fascist state where you would be put in jail.

    That much is clear.

  • I plan to be there in three weeks. If I don't mind the $8/hr internet fees, I'll try to blog something negative about Castro. BTW, if you don't hear from me after that, please come get me.

  • Conservatives have been known, on frequent occasions, to oppose actual repressive regimes. Have a good time. We'll see you when, if, you get out.

Updated information on imprisoned Cuban journalists

In Cuba, any journalist who does not work for the official media is considered to be an “enemy of the state” or a “mercenary”. The changeover at the summit of the state between the Castro brothers and the promises made by Cuba in relation to human rights at the Non-Aligned Summit in Havana have unfortunately done nothing to alter this state of affairs.

There are currently 24 of them who have paid with their freedom for having founded an independent news agency, written for a dissident review or spoken to a media in the Cuban diaspora. Some are serving prison sentences of 14-27 years. Others are being held without trial. Another, despite being put on trial, has never been told what his sentence was. All of them however suffer the same overcrowding, appalling prison conditions and mistreatment from the prison authorities that are the lot of more than 300 prisoners of opinion on the island.

  • See, whenever George Bush does something indefensible, the answer is to change the subject.

    Look, over there, bad Castro.

    Oh, look, it's Hugo Chavez.

Answer this, my anonymous friend. Do you support George Bush's usurpation of the Constitution of the United States? The on he put his hand on the bible and swore to uphold, twice?

Really, if the best you got is that George Bush isn't as bad as Castro, you really ought to think about giving it up.

  • Smug ideologues absolutely lurve tangential hyperbole and straw-man arguments. Anonymous might as well have said, "In Soviet Russia, post blogs you!"

It would have made as much sense in context.

Speaking of bizarre knee-jerk right-field statements, did you catch Williard "Mitt" Romney's suspension speech yesterday, particularly the moment when he said that a vote for a Democrat was "a vote for surrendering to terrorists" and that a Democratic President would make the U.S. "the France of the 21st Century?" I was concerned he was having a stroke, and the next sentence would be an even stranger non-sequitur along the lines of "Purple monkey dishwasher."

  • Fell for it hook, line and sinker. You are such a sucker...

See, whenever Durham does something indefensible, the answer is to change the subject.

Look, over there, bad stuff 100 years ago.

    Oh, look, it's Bull Conner.

Answer this, Ragagain. Do you support Durham's trashing of the Constitution of the United States? The one your city officials are supposed to uphold?

Really, if the best you got is that Durham isn't as bad as some other place and time, you really ought to think about giving it up.

  • Hey Anonymous those were rich white popular athletic males. Remember they do not count in this LaLa Land where success is frowned upon. One of the defense lawyers said in there reply to the lawsuit these young men are not afforded any protection.

I guess for governmental protection you have to make all the wrong choices in life and end up living on welfare while the bad people, ones that made all the right choices, have to support your sorry ass.

No anonymous around here people like vigilante justice and racist Revs. with enough oil in their hair to move the futures market.
