Hitting close to home
I hear Cary Printing and Graphics Inc. have both closed their doors this week. Not that printing has even been a recession proof industry (the shop i worked at in Sacramento didn't survive the 93-94 recession, even though it was 100+ years old, for example) but i wasn't aware that there was so much excess capacity in town. Guess the election season wasn't enough to build up a cushion to survive the current downturn.

Since 1949, Durhamites have slept soundly, secure in the knowledge that, in our town, erection can be depended upon. Now, thanks to the power of the internets, we can spread that security all over the world.

I was meeting with one of my printer clients/partners today when I heard. It's pretty shocking.

Cary Printing was a big client at the first shop i worked at when i moved to Durham. And even though Rockett wasn't a big client, i was on their softball team in the summer of 94.

A friend was worked there briefly and the take from them is that they went out of business b/c they were running it into the ground, not b/c of the economy.

Manos, you shouldn't always believe or repeat what you hear from your friends. I know first hand that what you have claimed is not a true statement. If they worked there briefly, how would they know why they closed?
