Casting call

If you tuned in to Shooting the Bull last night, you heard us talking about Main Street, the new movie scheduled to begin filming in Durham in another month or two. Who do you think should be cast to play Durham's leaders and assorted (not to mention sordid) characters? Phil had the best suggestion of the night with Ron Glass to play Mayor Bill Bell.

Tell you what, though. If Ron, the elevator operator at the Snow Building, doesn't end up with a speaking role, someone is not paying close enough attention to downtown.

  • Yay Ron! What a great idea.

  • Well if Ron Glass is gonna be in it, how about Steve Barry?

  • I'm going to be really interested to see how they film this movie. I keep getting the feeling reading the news on it that the director is planning on coming down here and using the "abandoned tobacco warehouses" to shoot. The question is, can he find any? I'm going to laugh my ass off if they show up for pre-production only to find expensive condos and fully rented Class A office space where they wanted to shoot scenes about a derelict industrial town.

  • I'm still laughing about toastie's comment. so nailed it.

  • On the casting note, it's too bad Ossie Davis is dead, because he'd have made a great Howard Clement. On the other hand, maybe we can just splice in clips of him from Bubba Ho-tep. It would probably work pretty well.
