Elvis!

Time Warner doesn't carry Sundance Channel* but they do have Sundance On-Dmenad, and they've been teasing me the past 3 weeks with listings of the new Elvis Costello program, Spectacle. But whenever i click on the show, i get a message that it's not available for viewing.

Till tonight.

Got to watch the premier episode with Elton John, and the legendary Allen Toussaint playing keyboards in the band.

Now i remember why Tumbleweed Connection, Madman Across the Water, and Honky Chateau were must haves in any serious record collection in the early 70s.

Channel 503 if you've got TWC digital cable.
=================
* Well, i guess they do. But i'd have to pay even more than i do now to get it.

  • Sundance East and West is 302 and 303 on Time Warner Cable.

The Elvis shows are really enjoyable. We've seen the ones with Elton John, Lou Reed, and we just saw the one with James Taylor. We just about to watch the Bill Clinton one

    I agree--great stuff.

  • When i go to 302 or 303, i get a message that says "To receive this channel, call TWC Customer Care at . . . "

I assumed that meant i would have to pay even more, but maybe i just need to let them know i want it?

Lou Reed, in addition to being the only man of his generation who can make Keith Richards look healthy, seemed like a really tough interview.

  • We definitely have it on 302 and 303 but I don't know what digital cable package we have. I'll be damned if I can figure out my cable bill anyway.

I'm loving the fact that the guests are given tons of time to talk and reflect and reminisce. So smart and engaging, all of them.

  • It is part of a package called Cinema Choice, which includes AmericanLife TV Network, Flix (East and West), Sundance Channel (East and West), Fox Movie Channel and Independent Film Channel. It is an extra $2.95.

Great that they are showing the Elvis Costello shows free on-demand. I also watched the Elton John episode and was reminded what a great musician he is. It was fascinating to hear (and see video of) his musical influences.

One heads up about TW on-demand programming. If you see something you like, you need to watch it, because as they add more episodes of a show, they take the early ones down.

  • Thanks, Jeff. My two reactions are "Well, i'm already paying XX dollars a month, what's another $2.95?" and "Jesus Christ, i'm already paying XX dollars a month, i'm not giving those scumbags another nickel."

I remember reading an interview that Elvis gave a few years back in which he said his greatest goal as a songwriter was to have Frank Sinatra do one of his songs, which i don't think ever happened. Wonder how he felt when Elton told his Frank Sinatra story?

  • They also showed Tom Petty's Running Down a Dream and something on Johnny Cash which I was thrilled about.
