Had dinner last night with a few friends and fellow bloggers, and at some point one of us (not me) made a reference to threadfall, from Dragonriders of Pern, the science fantasy series by Anne McCaffery.
The sad thing is, all of us got it.

I'd say that you should consider getting new friends. Except that dragonriders don't need friends. They have dragons. And work to do.
BTW, I just discovered that I can play an OK version of Missle Command online for free. Yay for Java. The game website I visited says, "if you grew up in the 80s, you shouldn't need instructions."

I'd like to think that it's better to get a reference to a series of books I read 20 years ago than not get a reference to a television show that I didn't watch last night. Yet, by most standards, the former means you're nerdy and the latter means you're out of touch.
