In case you hadn't noticed

Inflows at Lake Michie have now dropped below where they were this time last year. There's some rain in the forecast. Maybe it'll hit the watershed.

  • Well, both lakes are currently above last year's levels (Michie substantially so) so it's not all bad news. Now if this damn tropical system would only make its way over us, we'd be in good shape.

  • Little River is essentially at the same level as last year. While Lake Michie is significantly above where it was a year ago, it's still trending downward at a rate that should be drawing some attention.

You can thank the fact that we're using about 25% less water than we did last year for the lake levels. Otherwise we'd be in pretty much the same situation. Some rain would be nice, though.

  • On the bright side, Western NC got a real soaking the past couple days. Check the streamflows in about any county west of Asheville - they all went from 'Low' to 'High' with this storm.

Lake Logan in Haywood County rose 18 FEET today.

  • Both Lake Michie and Little River rose several feet overnight and, based on current flows, will be full later today.

Is it time to talk about easing restrictions just a bit now, at least on things that don't involve watering grass?

  • Good news indeed. Full reservoirs this time of year are a very good sign.

We passed through 3 tornado warnings on our way to the coast yesterday. A fourth, in Bahama, was issued after we were near our destination.

I haven't had a chance to read the newspaper reports, but hopefully nobody lost any property or suffered any injuries yesterday.
