Folloiwng the drought forum last night i went out for drinks and snacks with a few other attendees.
We sat comfortably at a sidewalk table till 10.
And yes, i realize that individual weather events cant be attributed to global phenomena. But you gotta wonder, especially with the widespread early blooming of plants all around the region, if the times they aren't a changing.
When a plant is stressed its response is to *make seeds now!!* Hey, I'm gonna die so I better make sure there are progeny in wait. Often the most bountiful blooming of a plant comes when it's on its deathbed.
Since 1949, Durhamites have slept soundly, secure in the knowledge that, in our town, erection can be depended upon. Now, thanks to the power of the internets, we can spread that security all over the world.

I spotted a forsythia in full bloom on my way to work this morning. It was on Demerius near the corner of Gregson.
