Bush commutes Libby prison sentence
Whatever will we tell the children? That lying is OK?

"I respect the jury's verdict," Bush said in a statement. "But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby's sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison."

Fitzgerald is the Nifong of Washington except no one stepped in to restrain him. Fitzfong knew within two weeks that Richard Armitage of the State Department, if anyone, was the one who had "leaked" Ms. Super Secret Agent's name to the press. Except she was never covert in the first place and Fitzfong knew that too, and that there was no underlying crime.
Yet Fitzfong kept on going because once the investigation has started he had to convict someone of something. The sum total of Libby's offense was that he and Tim Russert disagreed in testimony about a conversation they had two years before. Two and a half years in jail for that?
Why is Russert more credible anyway? Could it be that the jury foreman was a journalist?
Meanwhile, Sandy "don't check my pants and socks" Burger, who stole and destroyed classified documents from the National Archives gets to walk with a small fine fine.

For a more enlightened rundown of what Mr. Libby actually was found guilty of, and why it matters, see here, here, here, and here.
Unless you prefer to read RNC talking points.
