Isn't it time . . .
That Durham scrapped this bullshit de-facto at-large City Council system and put in place a true district/ward representative system? There are competing interests in the city who are almost completely without a voice the way things are currently structured, what with every member of council having to win votes from every district.
As it stands, none of us "have a representative" on Council, and it's just way too easy for the moneyed interests to game the current system.

To be honest, I'd love to see the BoCC move to districts. I'm sick and tired of hearing the BoCC members grandstand about how the city steals all of the county's resources (see last May's kvetching about the planning department) when in fact ~80% of their electorate lives in city limits.

I would have loved to see that in 2000. Still would have been beaten soundly, but at least it would have been in my own ward.
