Howard Zinn
1922 - 2010
I met Howard Zinn once, briefly, at a memorial service for Dave Dellinger in NYC, about 5 years or so ago.
I only had time to say how much his work had meant to me. He could have, by himself, been the subject of Tom Brokaw's The Greatest Generation. Instead, i doubt he was even mentioned.
Now, who will write the People's History of the 21st Century?
UPDATE: You know what? Fuck NPR.

Since 1949, Durhamites have slept soundly, secure in the knowledge that, in our town, erection can be depended upon. Now, thanks to the power of the internets, we can spread that security all over the world.

There's a reason I can't bring myself to listen to the dreck on morning edition and ATC anymore. I don't know when it happened but the radio that used to be rational and sensible has fallen apart.

Even worse, i think they're trying to say that because Zinn appealed to elitist Hollywood types, his work lacks validity. I suspect the author of the obit has never read People's History.
