Olympic great Michael Phelps acknowledged "regrettable" behavior and "bad judgment" after a photo in a British newspaper Sunday showed him inhaling from a marijuana pipe.
In a statement to The Associated Press, the swimmer who won a record eight gold medals at the Beijing Games did not dispute the authenticity of the exclusive picture published Sunday by the tabloid News of the World.
"I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment," Phelps said in the statement released by one of his agents. "I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again."
Oh, sweet Jesus Christ on a crutch. What's it going to take before one of these so-called respectable members of the community comes out and says, "You know, i was smoking the weed. I liked it. I'll probably do it again. The problem with that is?"

Marijuana should be legal!Take note from Amsterdam,low drug crimes and usage.Now is the time the way the ecoomy is going it would make money for the states!Plus the crime would drop and and politician's wont get kick backs as well! Mayor Bloomberg NYC admitted he not only smoked but he enjoyed it as well. He's worth 20 billion now. Obama is president. Does anybody still believe the government lies that Cannabis makes you lazy and stupid? How many more people have to die from the drug war? Do we need another Al Capone to get these puritanical idiots in government to stop giving organized crime this great stream of income?

Michael should be careful who he hangs out with cause somebody made alot of money from that picture. Politicians are always admitting they smoked pot when they were younger, although some didn't inhale! Any bets on how many Steelers and Cardinals are tokin' tonite? I'd rather be on the road with stoners than drunks.
