Hooray!

The Herald Sun reports that the city is finally going to get around to weeding the medians on I-85. This is the kind of day-to-day function that makes life so frustrating around here. Take a break from overplanning projects that will never get built, and start taking care of what we have. Once we get good at that, then we can start planning better projects.

Now, if anyone in the city or county can find the money to make all of the I-85 interchanges as attractive as Guess Road and Hillandale Road, we'll be on to something.

And speaking of NCDOT being finished with the I-85 project, when do you suppose they'll come back and pick up the mess they left behind on Guess Road where the Pizza Hut used to be?

  • Stories like these make me understand the reluctance people have over new taxes and bond issues in Durham.

While I can understand the need for new taxes on a logical, intellectual level involving reason, another part of me asks "what happened to the money I already gave you?"

The other extreme is in Wake County, where apparently they have little interest in paying for the education of their children.

There needs to be a balance between pursing the public for necessary functions of a civil society and accountability for how that dough is spent. Not sure if we're there yet. Maybe some computer genius can come up with some software to track this?
