Oh. My. God.

The Iowa caucuses are today?

How come nobody tells me about these things?

  • You must still be insensate from that event a few days ago. ;)

  • From all the hype, you'd think Iowa -- the most populous, balanced and representative state in the Union -- was conducting a free and fair, one voter-one vote, representative primary.

  • Because there's no beer in Iowa?

  • Iowa is like a badly produced pre-game show.

  • BTW, the New Hampshire primaries are next Tuesday! That will quickly be followed by Michigan, Nevada, South Carolina, and Florida, all before January ends! It's a crazy schedule.

  • Oh, don't be silly. You know the Caucasus is in Asia, between the Black and Caspian seas. It's nowhere near Iowa.

  • Oh, there's beer in Iowa, my friend, trust me on that. In fact, moving to NC, the near-utter lack of "old man bars" was perhaps the biggest culture shock (okay, actually it was teh Jesus).

If any of the truly geeky folks on here watched C-SPAN last night, you got to see (on the Democratic side at least) what a completely unorganized show of democracy in action is like. Messy, yes, strange, yes, but also pretty interesting and cool.

The most interesting thing on the Republican side from the precinct C-SPAN was covering was a little girl with a really deep voice singing that "Proud to be an American Cause at least I Know I'm Free" song. Otherwise, not so much.
